Derma Fillers FAQ's

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments—most commonly made of hyaluronic acid—designed to restore lost volume, smooth out deep folds, and enhance facial contours. While Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, fillers work by “filling” in areas that have thinned due to aging, such as the cheeks, lips, and nasolabial folds, providing an immediate lifting and hydrating effect.

The longevity of fillers depends on the specific product used and the area being treated. On average, most dermal fillers last between 6 to 18 months. Areas with more movement, like the lips, may require touch-ups sooner, while areas like the cheeks or chin tend to maintain their volume longer. Your body will gradually and naturally break down the filler over time.

Most patients can return to their daily activities immediately following the treatment. You may experience minor swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site, which typically resolves within a few days. To ensure the best results, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and excessive heat for 24 to 48 hours after your appointment to allow the filler to settle perfectly.

Before Your Dermal Filler Treatment:

  1. *Skip the Blood Thinners: Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners for at least a week to keep bruising at bay. *Before discontinuing any medications, please consult your physician to ensure it’s safe and appropriate for your health.
  2. Lay Off the Alcohol: Skip the drinks 24 hours before your appointment to help keep swelling and bruising to a minimum.
  3. Hydrate: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to keep your skin in top shape.
  4. Give Your Provider the Scoop: Let your provider know about any allergies, medical conditions, or meds you’re on.
  5. Pause Harsh Skincare: Hold off on retinoids and exfoliating products a few days before your treatment to keep your skin calm.

After Your Dermal Filler Treatment:

  1. Hands Off: Try not to touch, rub, or massage the treated areas for at least 24 hours to let everything settle in nicely.
  2. Stay Cool: To reduce swelling, keep your skin cool and avoid hot showers, saunas, and too much sun for a day or two.
  3. Moisturize and Hydrate: Slather on a gentle moisturizer and keep drinking water to keep your skin looking and feeling great.
  4. Skip the Heavy Workouts: Take it easy with intense exercise for 24-48 hours to prevent any impact on your results.
  5. Follow the Tips: Stick to any aftercare advice your provider gives —like using specific products and avoiding certain activities—to ensure you get the best results!
